Each and every year, dogs of all shapes and sizes find themselves caught in the crosshairs during hunting season. Far too often, an imbecilic hunter without the proper training will bring his dog to the wilderness in hopes that he can use him like the hunting dogs in the movies. However, before the owner knows it, his dog has run off into the wilds only to be either eaten by a wild animal or shot by a fellow hunter who thought the dog was his prey. Fortunately, if you are willing to spend a little time and money on gun dog training before the big hunt, you will put your dog at a significantly lower risk of being injured during hunting season. With just a few gun dog training courses you will make your life and your dog’s life much happier and safer in the long term if you are planning on using your dog to help you hunt.

While it is best to begin a gun dog training program when your pooch is still a puppy, you can still teach your older dog some new tricks. The first thing that you must teach your dog according to proper gun dog training tips is to be able to socialize well with other humans and with the animals that you will be hunting. You want your dog to be familiar with the atmosphere of a hunt before you ever set foot in the wilderness with it. Also, another critical point of gun dog training is to be sure that your playful hunting companion will be able to follow the necessary control commands given to it by either your voice or by using a whistle or some other device. Many hunting dog accidents and dog deaths during hunting season occur simply because the dog was unable or unwilling to follow the various commands that come naturally to a dog with proper gun dog training.
